2. Personal Information We Collect

Colgate collects your personally identifiable information (“PII”) through the Website when you choose to provide such information, such as when you (i) submit such information through the “Contact” page of the Website, where you must provide your email address, (ii) submit an online form to request a Colgate product, (iii) purchase or reserve a product using the Website’s Shopping Cart, (iv) sign up for our newsletter, (v) chat online with a customer service representative, (vi) post a product review under a nickname, or (vii) post a comment in response to a blog post. This information may include (without limitation) first and last name, home or work address, email address, phone and fax information, credit card information, and authentication details. If you post a product review, we recommend that you select a nickname that does not include all or part of your real name. Colgate also collects your IP address and web log data. Please note that all payments are processed via third party payment processors, and Colgate does not store any of your credit card information. Please be careful not to provide any personal information on any public sections of the Website.
We refer to “PII” to mean first/last name, home address, email address, telephone number, or any government identifier such as a social security number. Note that “non-PII” may also be collected when you visit the Website, in the form of a unique identifier that we or a third party we work with set and read on your browser (e.g., through an online “cookie”) when you visit our website. We describe these technologies in greater detail in Section 5, below.

3. Use of Personal Information

We will use your PII (i) to operate the Website, (ii) to provide Colgate products and related services (and information about those products and services) to you, (iii) to address your requests for information, products or services, (iv) for research purposes, (v) for product development, and (vi) to send you administrative and promotional marketing. We may also send you emails to ask if you would like to submit a product review. If you provide your email address, we may also work with a data partner who may de-identify these emails in order to send you display media (for instance, when you are logged-in on another website). Where required in the relevant jurisdiction, we will obtain your consent before sending you promotional emails. If you wish to opt out of promotional emails, you may do so by following the “unsubscribe” instructions in the email.
We may use any of the information that you provide in order to fulfill, ship and validate orders you make on or through our website.

4. Disclosure of Personal Information

Disclosures to Third Parties Assisting In Our Operations. We may share your PII under confidentiality agreements and any legally required data processing agreements with other companies that work with, or on behalf of, Colgate to provide products and services, such as those who are performing research, marketing services, providing email solutions, delivering goods or services, providing cloud hosting services, administering promotions, analyzing data and usage of the products and the Website, providing data enhancement and other marketing services, processing payments, calculating tax on products to be shipped, operating the Website, or providing support and maintenance services, as well as legal, regulatory, audit and other professional advisors. We also share your PII with companies that provide order fulfillment, billing and collection services to us. These companies may use your PII to assist us in our operations or for our legitimate business interests.
Disclosures Under Special Circumstances. We may disclose to third parties, including government agencies, information about you, including PII, to respond in good faith to subpoenas, court orders, legal processes or governmental regulations or inquiries, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims. We likewise may disclose information where we believe it is necessary to do so in order to investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or as otherwise required by law.
Other Parties With Your Consent or At Your Direction. In addition to the disclosures described in this Privacy Policy, we may share information about you with third parties when you consent to or request such sharing.

5. Automatically Collected Information

Each time you visit the Website, Colgate collects some information to improve the overall quality of your online experience.
Aggregated Data. Colgate collects aggregate queries for internal reporting and also counts, tracks, and aggregates the visitor’s activity into Colgate’s analysis of general traffic-flow at the Website. To these ends, Colgate may merge information about you into aggregated group data. In some cases, Colgate may remove personal identifiers from PII and maintain it in aggregate form that may later be combined with other information to generate anonymous, aggregated statistical information. Aggregated or anonymous data may be shared with Colgate’s affiliates, business partners, service providers and/or vendors.
Web Server Logs and IP Addresses. An Internet Protocol (“IP”) address is a number that automatically identifies the computer or device you have used to access the Internet. The IP address enables our server to send you the web pages that you want to visit, and it may disclose the server owned by your Internet Service Provider. Colgate may use IP addresses to conduct Website analyses and performance reviews and to administer the Website, although it will not combine traffic data with user accounts.
Cookies. Cookies are pieces of information that a website transfers to a user’s computer for purposes of storing information about a user’s preferences. Cookies in and of themselves do not personally identify users, although they do identify a user’s computer. Many websites use cookies as a standard practice to provide useful features when a user visits the website and most web browsers are set up to accept cookies. Colgate uses cookies to improve your online experience when visiting the Website. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, but some portions of a Website may not work properly if you refuse cookies. A session cookie is one that exists for the time period that your browser is open. A persistent cookie is one that is saved on your device/computer even after the browser is closed. Like many websites, we may use both session cookies and persistent cookies. We likewise may work with third parties who use cookies (and web beacons, described below) in order to send you advertising online: for instance, we may retarget you with an ad for a Colgate product when you are on another Website. To learn more about these advertising technologies, or to opt out of many of the providers that enable these “interest based” advertisements, please go to the DAA (Digital Advetising Alliance) industry opt-out portal, located at http://aboutads.info
Web Beacons. Some of the Website’s web pages may use web beacons in conjunction with cookies to compile aggregate statistics about Website usage. A web beacon is an electronic image (also referred to as an “action tag,” “single-pixel,” or “clear GIF”) that is commonly used to track the traffic patterns of users from one web page to another in order to maximize web traffic flow and to otherwise analyze the effectiveness of the Website. Some web beacons may be unusable if you elect to reject their associated cookies.

6. Response to “Do Not Track” Signals

Some web browsers may transmit “do-not-track” signals to the websites with which the user communicates, although web browsers incorporate and activate this functionality in different ways, and it is not always clear whether users intend for these signals to be transmitted. There currently is disagreement, including among participants in the leading Internet standards-setting organization, concerning what, if anything, websites should do when they receive such signals. Colgate currently does not take action in response to these signals, but, if and when a standard is established and accepted, we may reassess how to respond to these signals.

We implement controls on personal information that we hold, which may include (for instance) implementation of firewalls, anti-virus software, and date encryption methods. However, no internet or server technology is 100 percent foolproof and we therefore cannot (and thus do not) make any guarantees about the security of any data you submit to us. Please do not submit any confidential or sensitive information to us.
Please do your part, and avoid sharing with anyone any credentials (such as user names and passwords) that you use to gain to the Website; you are liable for any activity that occurs on your account, and we ask that you protect your credentials.
